Some advice for persons wanting to arrange transport into and around London from any of the major London area airports.

If you are coming into central London or need to get to your accommodation across London and have a lot of luggage, or if you have an early or late arrival which is before or after the time that London public transport is running then the best way for you to get to your B&B or hotel of choice may be to pre book a taxi or a private transfer by car or mini bus. Equally if you are in a group of four or more a private transfer/taxi could work out cheaper than using public transport. If have young children or elderly persons in your group, getting into and around London via the tube system at busy time of day with luggage can be quite a struggle.

We do not recommend that you take a black taxi from the airport as this can be VERY expensive because the black taxis work on metered time, not distance travelled. As you may realise London gets very congested and a typical trip from Heathrow airport to central London may only be around 15 miles but this journey can take well over an hour in heavy traffic. Equally we do not recommend you take a 'private' taxi at the airport without booking it first (or arranging a price) as they can charge well over the normal rates for pre booked transfer.
